Winter Skin Savers

I like the cold. Not many people do, but I think that winter is quite refreshing. The havoc that the cold reeks on my skin isn't so pleasant, but I wouldn't trade winter in for spring just quite yet. But anyway, you don't have to love winter and be outside 24/7 to know that with the cold comes dry skin. Well wallow no longer! Enjoy the cold with beautiful skin instead a flaky, itchy, and irritated face with these few tips and product recommendations:

-When cleaning your skin, switch to mild or gentle cleansers. The cold can cause flakes, which means your skin may be more prone to irritation as it sheds, so to help your skin try something that is fragrance-free, chemical-free, or lower percentage of benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
*Product recommendations: Aveeno Ultra-Calming, Fragrance-Free Foaming Cleanser OR Aveeno Ultra-Calming, Fragrance Free Moisturizing Cream Cleanser

-At night, use a heavier moisturizer than normal. Light moisturizers are great for the summer but in the winter, your skin needs a little extra help to maintain it's normal feeling so opt for something a little more hydrating. Heavy moisturizers also reduce your risk of flaky skin because only dry, itchy skin flakes!
*Product recommendations: Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream OR Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre

-If you use a toner, try one that is alcohol-free. Toners are great for acne-prone or large-pore skin but most toners leave your face taut and dry after use because of strong alcohol content. There are toners on the market that don't have high alcohol concentrations and help soften the skin while still maintaining toner benefits so look for those alternatives instead.
*Product Recommendations: Shiseido Benefiance Enriched Balancing Softner OR Dickson's All Natural Witch Hazel Astringent

-Use a hydrating mask once a week to give your skin an extra boost. Even if you have acne, your skin needs a moisturizer. Trying to dry out your face to reduce acne is not a good idea because the dryer your skin gets, the more oil it will produce, which in turn may increase clogged pores instead of reducing them. So in short, moisturizer your skin because healthy skin will glow!
*Product Recommendations: Kenzo Marshmallow Mask OR Lancome Hydra-Intense Masque

-Use a clay mask once a week to soak up the excess oil your skin produces to counter the harsh weather. This step is necessary for very oily skin or blemish/acne prone skin. Clay masks soak up the toxic stuff in your pores and deep cleanse by taking the impurities out.
*Product Recommendations: Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask (Masque)

I wish you all a happy new year filled with love and happiness. Enjoy what's left of the holiday season!
